‘The gold standard of clinical pharmacy’: Camille Boland wins Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award

Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) today awarded Camille Boland FANZCAP (Edu., Lead&Mgmt) the 2026 Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award for her outstanding contribution to clinical pharmacy practice in Tasmania and nationally.

Upon presenting the award at the Closing Plenary of Medicines Management 2026 (MM2026) in Brisbane this afternoon, AdPha President Assoc. Prof. Tom Simpson FANZCAP (Lead&Mgmt) paid tribute to Camille Boland as both a pioneering leader in clinical pharmacy and a mentor who helped shape his own career.

'Camille was my preceptor as a pharmacy intern, and one of the most influential mentors of my career. Her example showed me what clinical pharmacy could achieve, and she has spent more than three decades turning that vision into everyday practice.

‘When she introduced unit-based clinical pharmacy at Royal Hobart Hospital in the late nineties, it was the first model of its kind in Australia. Today it is considered the gold standard, and patients in hospitals across the country benefit from it.

‘From partnered pharmacist medication charting to extended-hours services and advanced roles for pharmacy technicians, Camille has continually brought pharmacy practice into step with the realities of modern hospital care – and brought a generation of clinical pharmacists along with her.

‘AdPha’s Australian Clinical Pharmacy Award recognises outstanding contribution to clinical pharmacy practice, and few people have shaped that practice as profoundly as Camille.’

As well as leading Australia’s first unit-based clinical pharmacy service, a model since adopted by tertiary hospitals across the country, Camille was a lead author and contributor to the SHPA Standards of Practice for Clinical Pharmacy Services, which set national practice standards for clinical pharmacists, and a key figure in Tasmania’s transition to a statewide hospital pharmacy service model, since adapted by other services around Australia.

Under her leadership as Statewide Pharmacy Manager – Clinical Pharmacy, Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting was implemented across Tasmania’s public hospitals, alongside weekend and extended-hours clinical pharmacy services and outpatient clinical pharmacy clinics.

An Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Tasmania, Camille has contributed to more than 30 publications and has mentored generations of Tasmanian clinical pharmacists, including many now in clinical leadership roles across the state.

Christopher Macintyre FANZCAP (Lead&Mgmt, MedSupply) Statewide Pharmacy Manager – Dispensary at Statewide Hospital Pharmacy, said her legacy could be seen in every Tasmanian public hospital.

‘It would not be an exaggeration to say that every clinical pharmacist in Statewide Hospital Pharmacy is working in a world that Camille was fundamental in building, and that all patients receiving care within Tasmanian public hospitals have the opportunity for safer, higher quality clinical care because of her career and her work.’

AdPha congratulates Camille on this well-deserved national honour and thanks her for her enduring leadership, mentorship and commitment to safer, higher quality care for patients.
