The State of Pharmacy: Workforce Insights 2025 is the first comprehensive examination of Australia's advanced pharmacy workforce delivering critical services across our hospital and health systems.

For too long, the vital contribution of hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians has been under-recognised in national workforce planning, which stems from a lack of visibility.

Released in November 2025, the inaugural report showed an innovative and diversifying profession constrained by resourcing pressures, which restricts equitable access to essential hospital care.

This report examines workforce size and composition, the role of advanced pharmacy within the healthcare system, resourcing and sustainability challenges, and critically – the pipeline and capacity that will uphold patient care in the future.

It serves as a catalyst for conversation and action, for members, pharmacists, department and hospital leaders, health partners and stakeholders and members of governments across Australia.
