Biggest ever ‘yellow book’ launches as AIDH10 enters a new digital era

Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) has today announced the release of the 10th edition of the Australian Injectable Drugs Handbook (AIDH10), with the print version launching in parallel with the resource’s reimagined dedicated digital product– the AIDH10 app – through Therapeutic Guidelines. Both formats will provide up-to-date and vital information on more than 500 injectable medicines.

The new 10th edition has been comprehensively updated, and features:

  • Ambulatory antimicrobial therapy information reviewed and updated in 26 monographs, with new information in 8 monographs from 5 new stability studies.
  • Compatibility information reviewed and updated, including new information in over 40 monographs from 8 new studies.
  • A new table comparing commonly available potassium chloride premixed infusion bags to guide safe selection and administration of potassium.
  • Clinical and practical resources reviewed and updated.
  • A new section on IV access and equipment, including midline catheters, filter needles and glass ampoules and compatible containers and infusion sets.

Among the most significant clinical updates is new guidance on speed to administration of the first antimicrobial dose for adults with sepsis after recognising the signs and symptoms of sepsis and septic shock.

To support implementation of this guidance, a new antimicrobial ‘First dose in sepsis’ A2 wall chart is also available. Providing quick-reference preparation and administration guidance for 27 antimicrobial medicines, the wall chart has been designed for display in emergency departments and other clinical areas where patients may first present with sepsis.

The extensively redesigned AIDH10 app – launching on 1 July 2026 through the Therapeutic Guidelines platform – will include a new, purpose-built Infusion Rate Calculator. This interactive tool has been designed to support and streamline complex point-of-care workflows for health professionals administering injectable drugs. By helping reduce the need for multi-step calculations, they will be able to focus on delivering the best face-to-face patient care more efficiently.

The Infusion Rate Calculator is one of many features in the new AIDH10 digital app. With a redesigned interface, the app delivers enhancements to search, offering an experience that’s fresh, user-friendly and intuitive as it provides clinical guidance at the point of care.

AdPha President Assoc. Prof Tom Simpson FANZCAP (Lead&Mgmt) said AIDH10 represents a major milestone in the evolution of one of Australia's most trusted medicines information resources.

‘For more than 25 years, AIDH has provided health professionals with respected, evidence-based information in a comprehensive one-stop reference, assisting with best clinical practice and productivity.

‘The 10th edition delivers significant clinical updates while introducing powerful new digital functionality that makes critical information easier to access at the point of care, however you choose to access AIDH.

‘We are particularly proud of the new sepsis guidance and wall chart, developed by the AIDH Editorial Committee in collaboration with the AdPha Emergency Medicine Leadership Committee. This practical resource will help clinicians rapidly prepare and administer first-dose antimicrobials when every minute counts.

‘AdPha’s partnership with Therapeutic Guidelines marks an exciting new chapter for AIDH, ensuring this highly valued resource continues to evolve and provide contemporary digital clinical support for healthcare professionals across Australia.’

The print version of AIDH10 and the ‘First dose in sepsis’ wall chart are now available through the AdPha Bookshop.
