Policy and Advocacy impact: Feb 2026

AdPha provided its Federal Budget 2026-27 submission to the Federal Government, with the topline recommendation calling for the establishment of a National Medicine Shortages and Discontinuations Clinical Advice Service.

AdPha continues to advocate for its members on multiple fronts regarding medicines shortages, presenting at a national summit on medicines shortages, and continuing a close working relationship with TGA, members and other stakeholders, in the past month this has included palliative care medicines and possible discontinuation of valproate 100mg tablets.

We encourage members to join in the Communities discussions if you have any thoughts or insights.

On the jurisdictional front:

  • AdPha’s NSW Branch Committee, provided feedback on NSW Health’s draft Medication Management Activities Guide, recommending clearer definitions and to reference AdPha Standards of Practice Series, inclusion of outpatient and virtual care, and recognition of evolving pharmacy roles.

  • AdPha met with the VIC Department of Health to discuss its Hospital at Home policy project. On behalf of the Victorian Branch Committee, Galahad Gu FANZCAP (Lead&Mgmt, PeriopMed) provided input on current issues, highlighting opportunities to address gaps in the existing 2011 Hospital in the Home guidelines, which are limited to acute admitted services. The project supports the Department’s strategic priority of providing care closer to home and aims to expand the range and volume of admitted and non‑admitted services delivered virtually and in the home.

  • AdPha WA Branch Committee partnered with the WA Chief Pharmacists Forum to make a submission to the Prescribing by pharmacists and registered nurses consultation by WA Health, a critical milestone to progress Partnered Pharmacist Medication Prescribing in WA Health which AdPha and the WA Chief Pharmacists Forum has collaborated on for almost two years.
